Some years, Wadi Rum doesn’t receive the rain to refresh and nourish its soil, making the desert extremely dry. However, once the rains arrive, the water is collected in wells built upstream by the Bedouins. The water can then flow into these wells to be stored and used throughout the rest of the year. This greatly benefits the herds that roam the desert. When guides pass through the area, they fill the little tank on the side with water so that the animals crossing can drink peacefully.
It’s true that the desert is much more beautiful and pleasant to visit in good weather. But the rain can make the landscape truly dramatic! Waterfalls suddenly appear, creating impressive streams. Fortunately, the sand absorbs the water relatively quickly.
You will have the opportunity to visit them during tours in the White Desert.
